Personal Care provides “hands on” care, for adults 60 years and older, in a person’s home that is related to personal hygiene or functional activity of daily living that an individual cannot meet independently. Activities of personal care include bathing in the tub, shower or bed; dressing and undressing; grooming; toileting; ambulation and transfer; and feeding. An individual must demonstrate an inability to perform these activities independently or with the assistance of an available informal support.
A Registered Nurse must be included in the supervision of all Personal Care Workers. The care plan is opened and assessed, as well as reviewed, every 60-90 days by a Registered Nurse. A consumer is usually limited to two hours of personal care, two days per week. Based on a person’s income, the individual receiving personal care will be asked to pay a portion of the cost of service. Consumers will participate in the cost-sharing program unless their income is below 125% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
