Citizens Corp

Mission Of Citizens Corps

The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. The Citizen Corps mission is accomplished through a national network of state, local, and tribal Citizen Corps Councils. These Councils build on community strengths to implement the Citizen Corps programs and will carry out a local strategy to have every American participate.

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. This valuable course is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood in an emergency situation.

Why take the CERT Training?

Well, it's like paying for car insurance. You might never need either; you hope not to. But if the occasion arises, having the CERT training, just like having car insurance, means you are as ready as you can be to help yourself, your family and your neighborhood.

CERT Training Course - The course is 16 hours of instruction and "hands on" training and includes the following areas:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Suppression
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Animals in Disaster
  • Terrorism Awareness
