Permanent Voter Registration is established by law throughout the Commonwealth. All electors, except members of the armed forces and bedridden or hospitalized veterans unavoidably absent from the country of residence, must be registered to be eligible to vote.

If you are already registered, you are not required to re-register, provided you have voted at least one time during the last two federal elections or unless you have moved.

Qualifications of Voters:
Individuals possessing the following qualifications are entitled to register to vote:

• Must be 18 years of age on or before the day of the next primary or election.
• Must have been a citizen of the United States for at least one month.
• Must have resided in the state 30 days immediately preceding the election.
• Must have resided in the election district, precinct or division where they offer to vote at least 30 days immediately preceding the election. (A qualified voter who moves his or her residence from one district to another in Pennsylvania within 30 days of an election may vote at that election in the district from which he or she moved).

Qualifications of Voters in a Primary:
The qualifications of an elector entitled to vote at a primary are the same as the qualifications of an elector entitled to vote at elections, except that he or she must be registered and enrolled in a party, Democratic or Republican in order to take part in the party's primary. However, all other registered electors are entitled to vote on questions placed on the ballot or special elections held concurrently with the Primary.

Deadlines to Register to Vote:
The Pennsylvania Voter Registration Act provides that the deadline to register is 15 days prior to each election. We must receive the application in the office. NO POSTMARKS WILL BE ACCEPTED

Registering to Vote in Person:

You may apply for voter registration at the Lehigh County Voter Registration Office located at
17 S. 7th St., Allentown. We are open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registering Online:
You may register to vote or change your registration online at www.votespa.com
with a valid PA Driver's License or a valid PA State Id. Once form is completed, it is then electronically transmitted to the appropriate voter registration commission for processing. Once complete a new Voter ID card will be mailed to you. 

Registering through DMV/Motor Voter:
You may register to vote when you apply for or renew your drivers' license. Applications for motor vehicle drivers' license or renewal can serve as an application for voter registration or an update to a previous voter registration. Pennsylvania "motor voter" registration applications are completed and stored via electronic media. The Department of Transportation transmits the contents of the application electronically to the Department of State. The Department of State electronically forwards them to the appropriate voter registration commission. If you have not received a Voter ID card from this office, you should contact us to check if the information has been received.

Where to Obtain Applications Locally:
Voter Registration Applications are distributed all throughout the county. They are at public libraries, municipal buildings and post offices. Simply pick one up there and return it to our office.
