Lehigh County Conference of Churches

An association of over 150 local churches, the conference has several social service programs.  A recent grant funds Homeless Housing Services (HHS) for adults with a mental health or other disability.  Their Pathways Program is an emergency service clearing-house for people with housing, food, job and other needs.  They also sponsor the Linkage Program whose street caseworker connects homeless people with services.  The Conference assists with medical prescriptions for people without resources to fill them.  The Conference also has a "Representative Payee" program to assist those on SSI (including children) who need help to manage their income and bills.  Call first.

Valley Housing Development Corporation

Supportive Housing Program: a HUD funded program (3-5 years), which provides rental assistance.  Must be a homeless individual with serious and persistent mental illness.  Must be committed to completing a higher education program (GED, college, trade school, etc.) and/or employment (paid or volunteer).  Must have sufficient income to pay portion of rent, food, utilities, and other living expenses.  Very strict eligibility requirements.

Independent Living Program (ILP): 610-317-8567.  Program is offered in the individual's home consisting of weekly life skills counseling, individual therapy, coordination of community resources and supports, and GED preparation/classes.  Individuals may be between the ages of 16-20.
Transitional Living Program (TLP): 610-317-8567.  Supervised residences for homeless youth from Lehigh and Northampton Counties, which provides support and assistance in pursuing education, employment and increasing independent life skills.  Available to homeless or about to be homeless individuals between ages 16-20.
